Holly’s Vintage

A charming website for a vintage crockery business in Bristol.

We worked with Holly’s Vintage, a boutique business offer vintage crockery hire for weddings and special occasions, to create a simple website that would show off their wonderful treasures and unique offerings.

Once we’d agreed on the look and feel of the new site, our Bristol web designers got work creating a user-friendly site that highlights the charm and character of the business.

In this web design case study, we’ll look at the following three features:

> Colours, fonts, branding and styling

> Simple site navigation

> Colourful photography of vintage crockery

 ENHANCING ENGAGEMENT AND REACH

1. Website Colours, Fonts, Branding and Styling

A website’s colours, fonts, and overall styling are essential for communicating its brand identity. For Holly’s Vintage, we focused on creating a look that exudes elegance, nostalgia, and a touch of whimsy to reflect the character of their vintage crockery.

The crockery collection itself is eclectic with lots of different colours running through the collection. We wanted to create a colour theme that could stand on it’s own and be easily identifiable as Holly’s Vintage, but also work alongside the pictures of the crockery. We settled on a royal blue and white theme with a gold accent colour.

Why It Matters:

Consistency in branding ensures that your website makes a memorable impression and resonates with your target audience. For Holly’s Vintage, pairing a colour theme of royal blue, white and gold with a double-spaced art deco font helped create a look that stood apart from competitors and encapsulated the charm of vintage crockery.

Implementation Details:

Our team of Bristol web designers worked closely with the client using the Coolors platform to create the perfect colour palette. The art deco fonts were
carefully chosen to complement the images and colours used across the site.

Also worth noting that we use Google Fonts across in all of our projects as they’re royalty free. This means if a client wants to match the font on their website with the font on their printed brochure, they can do so without having to pay a fee to a font foundry.

GET TO WHERE YOU NEED TO GO

Simple Site Navigation to Key Pages

A website’s navigation is the backbone of its user experience, allowing visitors to quickly and easily access important information. Holly’s Vintage business model is built around their fixed price offer of £4 per person. We created a page hierarchy that reflected this and quickly guided potential customers to what’s included with this package with minimal fuss.

Why It Matters:

If a business has a compelling offer (like Holly’s Vintage) then it’s important to guide customers to that information as quickly as possible. With the advent of smartphones and clickbait style social media videos, our collective attention spans are rapidly deteriorating.

For Holly’s Vintage, simple navigation to the images of their amazing crockery collection was the first step. This helps build value in the service the business is offering. From there, customers are signposted to the package page so they can see what they get and how much it costs.

Implementation Details:

We designed a clean, minimalistic navigation bar with clear links to key pages, such as the Home, About, Gallery, and Contact sections. Dropdown menus and subtle hover effects were added for a seamless user experience. Mobile responsiveness was prioritised, ensuring navigation remains intuitive across all devices. Clear call-to-action buttons, like “Get in Touch,” were strategically placed to guide users toward inquiries.

EYE-CATCHING IMAGERY

3. Colourful Photography of the Vintage Crockery

Photography is one of the most effective ways to showcase products online. For Holly’s Vintage, vibrant, high-quality images of their vintage crockery were essential to attract customers and convey the uniqueness of their offerings.

Why It Matters:

Images tell a story that words alone cannot. For Holly’s Vintage, colorful, detailed photographs of their crockery collection created an emotional connection with visitors. High-quality visuals not only make the website visually appealing but also build trust and encourage customers to envision the crockery at their own events.

Implementation Details:

Guidance Digital worked with Holly’s Vintage to select and optimize stunning images of their crockery. Each photograph was carefully edited to enhance colours and maintain consistency with the site’s pastel aesthetic.

These images were prominently featured in the gallery and throughout the site to captivate visitors and showcase the business’s unique offerings. Alt text and optimized file sizes ensured the photography did not compromise site speed or accessibility.
