Numbers, focus, laser eyes and the power of five

Hootsuite, Google Analytics, Tweetdeck, Google Search Console, Mailchimp Campaign Reports, sometimes it can all leave you feeling slightly ‘ahhhhhhhh I’m just trying to run my business here’.

While there’s no doubt technology has brought us lots of great things, it’s easy to get lost down the rabbit hole of stats and analytics.

I know this is not a good use of my time.

It sounds simple but with so much information available it’s important to keep your feet planted in the real world and focused on what matters. Namely; enquiries, sales, revenue and profit.

The tools I listed at the start of this article are great. But you probably don’t need to use all of them to analyse all of your data, all of the time.

Think about the four points above and the statistics you need to keep an eye on if you plan to reach them. Included are a couple of stats that might be important to your business when looking to track enquiries, sales, revenue and profit.

– Number of website users per day
– Which website pages these users are visiting
– Number of prospects requesting more information per week
– Number of warm leads I have
– Number of new clients per week

NB – We understand that businesses are different and that the examples above might not apply to you.

Stats that I think probably won’t have a significant impact on the ultimate success of your business:

– Facebook Business Pages likes
– Twitter followers
– Facebook Ad Reach

I really believe you don’t have to work 100 hours a week as a small business owner. You might have the occasional 50 or 60-hour week but I don’t think these have to be the rule.
